Afternoon Energy Pick-Me-Up

One of the best things about working out and doing yoga really early in the morning is that you’ve taken care of your body and connected to your vision for yourself to start off your day.

With Yoga Boot Camp, this brings a tremendous sense of accomplishment!

However, when you wake up early there is often a point in the day where you find you’ve hit a wall and the buzz has worn off. Trust me, I know. :)

So how do you stay energized when the mid-morning or afternoon fatigue comes on?

Here are some suggestions:

1. Sit up tall and deepen your breath. Circulation and breath is life energy! The video below has a short, seated yoga practice which is an awesome way to bring more circulation and energy to your body. You don’t even have to get out of your chair. :)

2. Drink more water. If you tend to drink coffee or soda, consider trading those in for water. Now, I’m not completely against coffee, but if you have more than one or two cups a day or are relying on it to get you through, ask yourself if that’s going to help your health in the long term. Pure water helps every single system in your body to perform well. Stay hydrated, and your health will benefit! (Squeezing lemon or lime in is great too!)

3. Take a nap, and go to sleep early. Really and truly, a 20 minute nap can make all the difference. Rest your body, and be sure to go to sleep early so your body can make the most of your early morning practice. Aim for 7-8 hours a night.

4. Do more yoga. Yes, you can do a practice in the afternoon even if you’ve done one in the morning! I often do, and my body thanks me. You don’t even have to make it a long one. Just get on your mat for 5 minutes and feel the difference!

5. Smile! Yep, your attitude has a direct influence on your experience. But you knew that. If you choose to see the beauty around you and to observe the things that you’re grateful for, your mental and emotional state are more conducive to a happy physical one. :)

So don’t just sit there when you hit the wall, do something about it that makes you feel better, eh?
